• Who I am

In the early months of 2011, a wave of unrest erupted in the Middle East. I watched the news, glued to the television as American reporters brought the conflict live to my living room. It was then that I decided to use my voice to shed light on the struggles of those who could not speak for themselves.

Five years later, I am learning the skills I need to achieve this goal through my education in the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, and putting them into practice through working as both a contributor and editor for student publications, like the award-winning North by Northwestern, as well as professional experience gained through the Medill News Service in Washington, D.C.

I plan to graduate in March of 2016, and fully intend to put the skills I have learned through my time at Medill to the test. I hope to never lose the passion I have for reporting and writing, and bringing attention to issues that ought not be overlooked.

EDNOS is not just restricting calories. EDNOS is not just purging after a large meal. EDNOS stands for “eating disorder not otherwise specified” and is more than the number of meals in a day or the number you see when you step on the scale.

In 2013, his fifth year in office, President Obama announced his plans to take action against the growing threat of climate change. He chose Georgetown University as his venue, speaking to students and faculty about ways to cut carbon emissions and develop renewable energy. But he was silent on an issue looming over less-affluent communities around the country.

President Barack Obama on Tuesday afternoon vetoed legislation that would approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
The legislation, first proposed by TransCanada Corp. in 2008, would have authorized the construction of a pipeline running from Hardisty, Alberta to Steele City, Neb. The $5.4 billion project requires federal approval because it crosses an international border.

Dallas Goldtooth peers into the modest crowd gathered before him in front of the White House on a bitter cold mid-winter day. Some hold signs boldly stating “KXL will spill” and “reject to protect,” others stand solemnly, listening to speakers and nodding as they rail against the sharply contested Keystone XL pipeline.

Michael Fleischer stood on the stage of the Jones Great Room, wearing nothing but his underwear and a green bow tie around his neck. He bowed and exited stage left. As the crowd erupted in applause, Fleischer stripped off his skivvies, revealing a matching bow tied intricately around his junk and ran back on stage, to the shock, awe and amazement of the audience.
